Conveyor chains of various strengths have a series of different chain pitches: the minimum chain pitch depends on the requirements of the sprocket teeth for sufficient strength, while the maximum chain pitch is usually determined by the rigidity of the chain plates and the general chain. If necessary, the sleeve between the chain plates can be strengthened to exceed the rated maximum chain pitch, but the gap must be reserved in the gear teeth to remove the sleeve.
